Since the introduction of Major Trauma Centres (MTCs) in England in 2012, improvements in survival rates and overall acute care following MT have been observed. This means that more people than ever in the UK are living with physical injuries sustained as a result of traumatic events. Survivors of MT often live with life-changing physical injuries that may impact on multiple aspects of their life. However, research investigating peoples’ psychological adjustment to traumatic injury following MT is predominantly focused on children and working-age adults, despite the high rates of MT in young adults.

This research study aims to address this, to explore and further understand how young adults psychologically adjust to physical injuries following traumatic events.
